COLCA CANYON

The Colca canyon measures with a depth of more than 3,000 meters, thus ensuring its fame as the second deepest canyon in the world. It is a natural habitat for alpacas, llamas and condors and its environment presents excellent conditions for hiking, rock-climbing, parachuting and mountain biking. In addition, there are many Pre-Inca archeological sites along its path with tiny colonial churches, thermal springs and a marvelous landscape, all with the possibility of viewing the swooping condors that pass overhead. Its moderate climate and altitude make Colca canyon a perfect place for getting a good acclimatization before continuing the journey to Cuzco or Puno.

Itinerary Description

Day 1: Arequipa – Colca – Arequipa

• Pick up from your hotel approximately at 3:00 Hrs to initiate the excursion.
• You will manage to observe impressive landscapes from the bus, such: the snow-capped Chachani, Pampas Arrieros, Pampas Cañahuas, the Vicuñas’ National Reserve, high Sumbay, Viacachani, Pata Pampa or the Andean look-out.
• Then, we will start descenting to the Colca Canyon, in the way, we will visit to the towns of  Chivay, Yanque and it’s monumental baroque style church, Achoma, and Maca, and later on you will observe the Antahuilque´s look-out, the stone model, the hanging tombs.
• After that, we will get to Pinchollo, the valley’s most typical town and seven kilometres from there, we will get to the Canyon’s Look-Out and the Cross of the Condor where you could obseve the amazing condor flying, as well the canyon’s depth: 1,2OO meters from the look-out point to the river.
• Return to the city of Arequipa , where we will get approximately to the 18:3Ohrs.
